            Senior Project Engineer - Solar

 

The candidate will be responsible for leading engineering and project management activities during the delivery phase of renewable power projects within portfolio in Italy. He/She will work alongside the EPC Manager in the successful delivery of solar PV and storage projects from pre-notice to proceed through project completion.

He/She will lead the preparation of design packages for inclusion in the EPC RFP and contract ensuring they are compliant with permit, grid operator requirements, applicable internal and external codes and standards. In addition, He/She will also manage engineering processes and provide support to the EPC manager during engineering & detail design review, interconnection delivery, procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover project phases, including liaising with the EPC contractor, equipment Subject Matter Experts, asset management team and external consultants.

He/She will ensure multiple high value projects are professionally engineered, from system design through to construction and handover phase such that they are delivered on time, to budget, with no compromise on safety and quality.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead preparation of design packages for inclusion in EPC contract compliant with permit, grid operator requirements, applicable internal and external codes and standards;
  • Support EPC manager in review of EPC proposals and contract negotiation;
  • Manage engineering process and provide support to EPC manager during engineering & detail design review, interconnection delivery, procurement, construction, commissioning and handover project phases, including coordinating and managing EPC contractor, external consultants and asset management team;
  • Support development of single-line and three-line diagrams with required electrical details for solar PV systems in accordance with local and national grid codes, utility interconnection tariffs and requirements;
  • Support development engineering manager and project development team on solar development efforts in Italy;
  • Training/coaching of other engineers in team;
  • Support troubleshooting and resolution of applicable project engineering, construction and performance issues as well as evaluation of new technologies;
  • Undertake site visits to sites under construction and lead analyses and sharing of key lessons learned post-COD.

 

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor’s / Master’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent is preferred;
  • Extensive hands-on experience in renewable power sector, specifically in the engineering and delivery of solar photovoltaics projects. Wind and battery storage experience is a plus; Skills in Energy Yeld Analysis an PVSyst is an advantage;
  • Experience in solar EPC and O&M negotiations, as well as in construction of solar projects. Wind/storage development and/or EPC experience is a plus;
  • Experience in conducting onsite and document quality audits during various phases of the project (from engineering phase to COD);
  • Experience in verifying mechanical completion, cold and hot commissioning phase of projects;
  • Broad and in-depth technical knowledge of renewables power plant design and engineering, especially electrical/power engineering aspects;
  • Experience in managing technical consultants, owner’s engineers and independent engineers in renewables industry;
  • Familiarity of local, state and national permitting and grid connection requirements and good understanding of project economics, value chain and project development;
  • Strong network with manufacturers of modules, inverters and mounting structures in order to understand the commercial implications to projects (e.g., price, yield);
  • Strong communications skills, being able to present their idea within technical and non-technical audience and to constructively engage entrenched or opposing views;
  • Willingness to travel up to 30% of the time;
  • Culturally sensitive and ability to build strong relationships with Shell, partners and stakeholders;
  • Fluency in English and Italian is a must, additional languages is nice to have, particularly Spanish.
